Understanding Islam

Friday 4th  – Sunday 6th February 2011

Chris Hewer

Dr Chris Hewer has worked in Christian-Muslim relations based in Birmingham since 1986 and from 1999 – 2005 was adviser on interfaith relations to the Bishop of Birmingham. He now works in London as the St Ethelburga Fellow in Christian-Muslim relations.

“A remarkable journey into our faith and way of life. . .Chris Hewer presents Islam in a way that is both authentic to our tradition and also intelligible for a Western audience. Every person of integrity will welcome this excellent antidote to Islamophobia, resulting from years of interfaith cooperation and frank theological discussions, by one of those Christians praised in the Qur’an for being close to Muslims and humble.” Prof. Yahya Michot, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.

“The perception of Islam today is increasingly shaped not only by means of information, but also through misinformation and even disinformation. St Deiniol’s initiative is indeed welcome and timely.” Dr. Ataullah Siddiqui, Director, Markfield Institute of Higher Education
