Gladstone Festival to be held next month

Gladstone’s Library is hosting a Gladstone Festival next month to celebrate the life of Victorian Prime Minister William Gladstone and the work of Gladstone’s Library. The weekend which takes place 16-18 September also offers people the opportunity to find out future plans for the Library.
As part of the weekend visitors will have a reception with the Warden of Gladstone’s Library, Peter Francis; take a guided tour of the Library; visit Gladstone’s study at Hawarden Castle; and enjoy Choral Evensong in St. Deiniol’s Church.
The guided tour is taking place as part of the European Heritage Days in Wales, Open Doors Scheme, organised by The Civic Trust for Wales. The events take place throughout September and offer the opportunity for people to access places and buildings of historic and architectural interest. This year the Gladstone’s Library tour is part of the five hundred events taking place across Wales.
The Choral Evensong will be with the Chapel Choir of Abbey Gate College and Canon Robin Morrison, former Bishops’ Advisor on Church and Society for the Church in Wales. Since it formed over 20 years ago, the Chapel Choir of Abbey Gate College has sung at a number of prestigious venues both in the UK and abroad including the cathedrals of Cologne, Aachen, Salisbury, Wells and Chester as well as Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral, London.
“Our annual Festival provides the ideal opportunity for people to find out about the Library and its work” says Peter Francis, Warden at Gladstone’s Library. “I look forward to hearing people’s views on the Library’s developments and sharing with them its plans for the future”.
Attendees are welcome to attend as a non-resident for a session or day or to take in the full programme by staying at the Library for the weekend. All events are free of charge.
