Gladstone’s Library to Launch Book Club

Posted: Wednesday, 25th January 2012

Next month, Gladstone’s Library in Hawarden is launching its first book club. Called ‘Seriously Books’ the group will bring together anyone interested in literary fiction who would like to discuss past, present and future literary classics.

The first meeting will be held at the Library on Monday 13th February at 7.30pm where the first two books will be voted for. The following meetings will be held on the second Monday of every month and will alternate between contemporary and classic literary fiction.

2012 is also the first year of the Library’s Writer-in-Residence scheme. Authors Naomi Alderman, Stella Duffy, Nadene Ghouri, and Ian Parks were each successful in securing a place to spend a month at the Library. During their stay they will be hosting a series of talks and workshops on their books and writing techniques.

Peter Francis, Warden at Gladstone’s Library, explains why forming a book club could not have happened in a better year for the Library: “This year the Library has a number of book and writing events going on and this book group will make a fantastic addition to this theme. We are very excited to have our first four Writers-in-Residence staying here across the year and no doubt the group will have the opportunity to discuss some of these authors’ works.”

Anyone wishing to find out more about the group or to register their interest in joining should e-mail Louisa Yates on louisa.yates@gladlib.org
